Collection, 1898-1899.

Articles, several letters and a roll book documenting the Spanish-American War from the sinking of the Maine to the end. Articles are pasted into scrapbooks. The articles discuss the officers, especially Col. Fred Bennitt, the action, the country, people and culture of Puerto Rica, the problem with malaria and typhoid fever and the troops returning to the United States. Many letters from the soldiers, including one from Clarence discussing the taking of Arroyo, were published in the newspapers. There are two letters from Clarence to his parents while he is hospitalized in New York.
